American Idol Ousts Four
Ryan Seacrest loves doing this! He cut out the fringes on the American Idol, eliminating four of the 24 contestants. There was not much of a surprise because we are still at a stage when the contestants are far from what is needed on a stage of this magnitude. The hopefuls who had to bid bye are Janell Wheeler, Ashley Rodriguez, Tyler Grady and Joe Munoz. Wheeler was always expected to get the boot after singing an awful rendition of Heart's "What About Love".
The Leona Lewis song "Happy" was mercilessly murdered by Ashley! And boy was she angry on being asked to leave the show! When Ryan asked her what was on her mind, she said, "Well, I'm gonna sing a song!" She was referring to the sometimes laughable American Idol custom of making the ousted contestant to sing the same song again!
Tyler Grady couldn't have hoped for a better outcome after he was screaming his lungs out to deliver "American Woman"! The surprise ouster was that of Joe Munoz. Admitted he didn't go a fabulous job with Jason Mraz's song "You and I Both" but there was someone who did worse. And that is Tim Urban! Simon Cowell was mighty miffed with the British performer. In fact, when Tim was asked to sit down during the vote-out, Tim himself was more stunned than anyone else!
Phony Documents for American Idol
Controversies are throwing up on the American Idol stage one after the other. We reported about Chris Golightly yesterday. Then there's semi-finalist Todrick Hall. He was in the middle of a controversy last summer. A Tennessee production that he was part of never got broadcasted. As a result, he never got paid any money. The families involved in the production were also deprived. The most recent controversy comes in the form of Didi Benami. Somebody bothered to dig up a connection between her and the American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi.
Didi Benami thanked a person called Jason Reeves on her MySpace page. She calls him a "magical genius collaborator". In fact, they wrote the track "Pretty Fool" together. But who is this Reeves? He's a friend and co-songwriter of Kara DioGuardi! This connection isn't enough to get Benami the boot, but it's a warning message for the makers of American Idol. They need to pay more attention to the selection of candidates. The last thing they want at this stage is to entertain accusations of being biased! Watch this space as we give you daily updates on the American Idol show!
Phony Documents for American Idol
Chris Golightly was a man with a dream. He wanted the American Idol crown. But he was disqualified because the producers found out that this crooner was already under a contract with a record company, Dream Project Entertainment. That was not the last time American Idol producers heard from Chris. He was promptly back trying to make an entry. And this time he was armed with phony documents which showed that his contract with the company got over before he auditioned for the show from Hollywood.
Chris Golightly called a press conference to display a document which showed that his contract was over before he stepped on the American Idol stage. His triumph was short-lived! Lawrence D. Franklin, the CEO of Dream Project Entertainment, told TMZ that Chris faked documents to get into the show. He said that Chris approached him when he was booted off the American Idol stage. That's when they made fake documents. When quizzed why he was coming out with it now after helping Chris, Franklin said that he wanted to do the right thing, though belated! Wow!
