 ‘Edge of Darkness’ is a Mel Gibson film. This marks the return of Mel Gibson to the action genre that we know him to be very good at. The movie is about his character, Thomas Craven. He is a police detective who has a daughter, Emma. Emma return home and Thomas goes to South Station in Boston to pick her up. She shows signs of illness and when he’s rushing her to the hospital, a masked gunman fires at her, killing her in Thomas’ arms.  Don’t get taken in by the posters of this movie! It’s not an action-adventure story with Brendan Fraser and Harrison Ford beating the crap out of anyone in sight. On the contrary, the movie is all about sensitivity and sensitive treatment. John Crowley (Brendan) is actually a distraught father whose children are diagnosed with Pompe disease. It is a sort of acid maltase deficiency affecting the muscles. He and his wife, played by Keri Russell, raise money to conduct research and come out with a cure for this disease and save their children.
