The Bounty Hunter

‘The Bounty Hunter’ was touted to be a season biggie. It had just the right combination in terms of actors. It has the toast of the season, Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler. They were rumored to be dating since the Golden Globe awards this year. But for a film to be considered good cinema, it has to have more than just actors who are rumored to be dating in real life. Maybe the filmmakers focused too much on the leading couple and their chemistry. They wanted to ride piggyback on this aspect and that could be the only possible reason why the film lacks a strong plot.

Jennifer Aniston is Nicole Hurly, a reporter who sniffs her trail on to something big. This story could just be the scoop her career is looking for. Gerard Butler is Milo Boyd, the ex husband of Nicole. He’s been relieved of his duties as a cop. He’s taken up bounty hunting as his profession. His mission is to get Nicole back to the legal system after she jumps her bail and goes out to chase the story she had waited for all her life. The reason she jumped her bail becomes minuscule in comparison to all that is going on in the movie. The incidents go off on a tangent, taking you to places you never expected to be!

There is too much focus on Jennifer Aniston and her shapely figure. You have this not-so-pleasant feeling that the shortcomings of the film are being covered up by focusing on Jen’s drop-dead gorgeous looks. In a sort of stereotypical presentation of the character of the husband, Milo is portrayed as a bumbler, somewhat oafish and silly. The cameos are charming. That is a sort of a saving grace for the movie. But the movie is not worth going to the theaters for. Better wait to watch it on DISH TV when the opportunity comes.
