Doctors under Fire for Deaths from Prescription Drugs

The noblest profession doesn’t seem very noble these days! A number of deaths from overuse of misuse of prescription drugs have pulled the spotlight on this alarming trend. The premature deaths of some celebrities, including Michael Jackson and Brittany Murphy have put the doctors in a spot of bother. It is an alarming sign that prescription drugs are proving fatal for the celebrities. The incidents of such deaths must be higher if you consider the non-celeb sections of the population as well. Keeping this in mind, the California State Attorney General’s Office will be investigating the doctors soon.

The Attorney’s Office has figured out that there many instances of medical practitioners prescribing these drugs without any valid medical reason. Cases like Brittany Murphy and more recently, Corey Haim, has raised concerns over the way these drugs are being administered. Several doctors are under the scanner. The Office is also looking at many of their aliases. Sources close to the Office claim that 25 – 30 doctors are being “actively investigated”.

We are already aware of the legal battle that Michael Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray is contesting. He has been slapped with manslaughter charges. He’s out on bail and he’s been legally forbidden to administer any anesthetic like Propofol. The rather alarming trend is compounded by investigations into Hiam’s death and the underlying links to a massive drug ring. A criminal investigation is being carried out on that account. The cause of worry is really there because there are thousands out there, with their drug uses practically untracked.
