February 02, 2010 at 03:17 am by Monica.

The Oscar nominations this year has not been announced yet. There is a lot of speculation about the list and rumors and opinions are flying thick and fast. We have come up with a probable list for four categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. This list is based on our understanding of the trends that people associate with the Oscars. We have tried to keep our predictions as objective as we could. It’s only with time that you can cross-check how close we got with this predictive list.

Best Film

The films which definitely make it to the Best Film category include Avatar, Inglourious Basterds, The Hurt Locker, Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire and Up in the Air. This year we have ten nomination slots, so the other five will be taken up by films like Crazy Heart, The Messenger, A Serious Man and District 9.

Best Director The Best Director nomination list draws itself from the Best Film category. So you can safely include James Cameron for Avatar, Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds, Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker, Lee Daniels for Precious and Jason Reitman for Up in the Air. You might just well find the Coen Brothers make it to the list for A Serious Man and Campion for Bright Star.

Best Actor

With the Best Actor Award, you can place your bets on George Clooney for Up in the Air, Morgan Freeman for Invictus, Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart and Colin Firth for A Single Man. The other probables could be Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker or Viggo Mortensen for The Road. Others who make it to the list could be perennial Oscar favorites like Daniel Day-Lewis for Nine, Johnny Depp for Public Enemies and Brad Pitt for Inglourious Basterds.

Best Actress

In this category, you can bank on Meryl Streep to pick up her 16th Oscar nomination for Julie and Julia. The others could be Gabourey Sidibe for Precious, Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side (mind you, she’s already won the Screen Actors Guild) and Carey Mulligan for An Education. First timers like Emily Blunt for The Young Victoria and Abbie Cornish for Bright Star. You can’t also leave out Helen Mirren for The Last Station.
