MTV Negotiates for Jersey Shore
The controversial content of MTV’s show ‘Jersey Shore’ has made stars of a crop of youngsters. Though the show was panned by critics and shunned by many sponsors who were part of the initial line-up, ‘Jersey Shore’ has unexpectedly found millions of takers. The season finale got the channel 4.8 million viewers. Responding to the popularity with a contract for Season 2, MTV offered them $10,000 as signing amount and $5,000 for every episode that they shoot for. But the cast is not willing to go cheap this time.
Technically the cast of ‘Jersey Shore’ is under a two-year contract with the channel, so they are not in legal parameters to negotiate for an increase in their pay. But this happens often in show business. They are going about the negotiations like the stars of ‘Friends’ used to do. They are demanding the same amount of money each and they want much more than what MTV is offering them. MTV doubled their offer to $10,000 for every episode but the cast was silent on this counteroffer.
We believe the stars of ‘Jersey Shore’ look at themselves like the newer version of ‘The Hills’. The star cast of that show has members making $50,000-$100,000 for one episode! And they didn’t even have the number of viewers that ‘Jersey Shore’ has. There has been no official declaration from the side of MTV about going ahead with Season 2. But fans are sure that ‘Jersey Shore’ will come back and it’s just a question of hitting the right price.
