Randy Jackson Accused of Stealing Concept
American Idol judge Randy Jackson was named in a lawsuit filed by Dwight McGhee. He claims that Randy and MTV stole his concept of a reality show, and proceeded to make one on their own. The show in question in ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ is allegedly a rip-off from Dwight’s idea that he called ‘International Breakerz League’. Dwight says that he had pitched his idea to MTV in 2004. The lawsuit has been filed in the LA County Superior Court.
Dwight says that the show that he had pitched with MTV is “uncannily similar” to the show that MTV is launching now: ABDC. Back in 2004, his idea was rejected. When Dwight came to know about the new show which allows dance crews to participate, he felt miffed. He claims that he a sort of “implied” contract with MTV and feels that his idea has been cheated off him.
Now Dwight McGhee wants $2,000,000 as damages. He’s suing both Randy and MTV for alleged plagiarism of concept. Though either of the parties could not be reached for comment, many are quite sure that Dwight is just trying to make a name for himself and if possible, some money on the sides as well! Let’s see that comes up with this story…
