Hope for Haiti Telethon

This was supposed to be the tele-event of the decade and so it turned out to be. George Clooney’s fundraising telethon to raise money for relief work in Haiti received a glowing welcome. Thousands of callers called up the phone banks that were being manned by the A-list celebrities of Hollywood. The galaxy of stars took out time from their busy schedules to do something for humanity. Haiti needs all the help that it can possible muster and these celebs were right there to help them out.

The list of celebrities contain the biggest names in celebdom, like Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Steven Spielberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Charlize Theron, Cindy Crawford, Ben Affleck, Zac Effron, Gerard Butler, Neil Patrick Harris and Selena Gomez. It doesn’t end here, of course! The list is too star-studded to be named in entirety. You can never have all these people handling phone banks again, that’s for sure!

The Hope for Haiti telethon was the brainchild of George Clooney. He worked for more than a week to get this whole thing in place. He’s himself donated a $1m of his own money. A special mention must be made of Anderson Cooper’s video bytes from the earthquake-ravaged island of Haiti. Wyclef Jean, a fellow Haitian, was equally moving when he delivered his message. The tens of millions of dollars collected will definitely help in salvaging what is left.
