24 is an espionage series. Each season follows Jack Bauer as he fights cases which involve fictitious terrorist threats to the US. The season traces 24 hours of his life. He is with the Los Angeles Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU). Their aim is to safeguard the nation from all kinds of terrorist threats. The show has a liberal doze of CTU agents, terrorists and government officials. The series had its debut on November 6, 2009.
For those interested in stats, 24 is the second-longest spy series in terms of run time. The Avengers take the cake in this slot, of course. 24 surpassed Mission: Impossible when it began its 8th season. After the conclusion of the 8th season, the series will have overtaken The Avengers. Kiefer Sutherland is the lead actor of the
series and he’s under contract till the end of Season 8. But he’s declared that he’s “absolutely open” to coming back for Season 9.
The series had its share of awards and critical success. It has been nominated for the Emmy Awards on 58 counts, winning the Outstanding Drama Series in 2006. The same year Kiefer Sutherland won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Season 6 also got 6 Emma nominations for Sutherland and a second one for Jean Smart, the supporting actor.
