The Mentalist
The Mentalist deals with the life and work of Patrick Jane. He’s employed wit the California Bureau of Investigation. Initially he started off as a physic, healing others and also assisting police to nab criminals who have a mental instability. His life changed when two close persons were murdered by a serial killer whom Patrick was trying to hunt down. Then on, he started getting actively involved with the CBI to help them solve mysteries. His colleagues at work include Agent Teresa Lisbon, Kimball Cho and Wayne Rigsby, along with the amateur Grace Van Pelt.
The appeal of the series lies in the character of Patrick Jane. The antagonist of the series, Red John, murders his wife and daughter. Jane is portrayed as someone who is moody and idiosyncratic. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s very perceptive. He’s brilliant at his work, and is always correct. He’s also cocky and playful. All this combine to make him very popular among his coworkers. But when it comes to going out on trips with him, the annoying quality of his character makes them take turns!
But when it comes to hunting down Red John, the murderer of his wife and daughter, Patrick Jane is extremely serious, even to the point of risking his life. He is helped in his work by Teresa Lisbon. Teresa looks at Patrick with some degree of annoyance, but she also understands and respects the brilliance of his work. She backs him convincingly on most of his seemingly far-fetched theories.
