The Office
The Office is based on the British series of the same name. The British edition had achieved a lot of success before it crossed the Atlantic shores. The series is based on the incidents and lives in an office. It highlights a band of office employees who work for the Dunder Muffin Paper Company, Scranton branch. The group has its own idiosyncrasies and eccentricities. The series is shot with documentary cameras and this gives the series a real-life feel. The Office was adapted for the American screens by Greg Daniels. The writers of the original BBC series, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, co-wrote the first few episodes.
The group is led by the Regional Manager Michael. He thinks he’s the coolest boss around, which invariably makes him an insufferable prick. The salesman, Jim Halpert, is in love with the receptionist, Pam. He’s also likes to sabotage his mate, Dwight Schrute. Ryan Howard started off as someone who believed in hard work, but then got wind of the political aspects in an office and promptly got transferred to the New York headquarters. You also have the silent Phyllis Lapin Vance, tired and worn out by his working life.
The Office has won numerous awards and critical acclaim. The impressive award lists the Golden Globe and Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series. Steve Carell, who plays the character of the Regional Manager, won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, 2006.
