Burn Notice

Burn Notice is an espionage thriller. The basic premise of the series is that a spy, Michael Western (Jeffrey Donovan), is left to deal on his own, with his influence and money completely taken back. He’s dumped in Nigeria with nothing on his hands, except the will to find out who rendered him redundant. Burn notice is a technical spy term, refers to the procedure of disowning a spy after judging the person to be unreliable. Such a spy is deprived from using any government money or influence. When a Nigerian operation goes wrong, Michael discovers that it happened because of non-cooperation from his U.S. contacts.

Michael finds himself grounded in Miami, with his ex-girlfriend, Fiona Glenanne. He’s completely on his own and is abandoned by all intelligence networks. He’s also under continued surveillance. He’s ordered not to leave Miami or he will be arrested. Despite these setbacks, Michael has a burning desire to find out who issued the burn notice against him. In his search, he confronts a series of encounters with contract killers, drug traffickers and the likes.

The series is one of the well-received ones. It won the Edgar Allan Poe Award in 2008, in the category of “best Television Episode Teleplay”. The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, 2008, got the series “Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series”. The composer for the series, John Dickson, also won the 2008 and 2009 ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards for “Top TV Series”. The Writers Guild of America nominated Craig S O’Neill and Jason Tracey for the “Episodic Drama” award for the episode “Double Booked”. Catch the action on OrderSatelliteNow!
