Caprica

Set in the fictional world of ‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘Caprica’ begins 58 years before the incidents shown in ‘Battlestar’. The series tells the story of how the Colonial humanity made up the robotic Cylons. These would later seek revenge for their enslavement by destroying the human race. The series is similar and different to its parent ‘Battlestar’ in a number of ways. The reasons range from the creative to the commercial. Ronald D. Moore says, "You don't try to repeat the formula... Everything about ‘Caprica’ was designed specifically to not repeat what we had done in ‘Galactica’."

Despite being a success with the critics, ‘Battlestar’ could never really pull in the male members of the demographic. Keeping the requirements in mind to take this to the women as well, the story of ‘Caprica’ was suitably modified. The series creators know that “war in space” was not something that women would be interested in. ‘Caprica’ was built to pull in new fans that were not keen on the Battlestar franchise.

The world of ‘Caprica’ is one that runs on the mantra of success. The strive to survive is still there in this dark series. Says Ronald D. Moore, "It's about a society that's running out of control with a wild-eyed glint in its eye." The setting for ‘Caprice’ is very urban and there are other undercurrents like relationships, corporate and political aspects which take it beyond the realm of science fiction. Moore calls ‘Caprica’ "television's first science fiction family saga." Catch the action on OrderSatelliteNow!
